Tailings pond, Leach mining

The leaching process for the production of metals and minerals involves the use of chemicals and/or processes likely to cause pollution to the environment. It is therefore necessary to establish impermeable barriers and drainage systems based on geosynthetics. Geomembranes are commonly used in mining for several elements: the sealing of the platforms that contain the leach pads, canals and ponds for conduction and retention of liquid solutions pre and post-treatment, works of closing of rejected materials storage, lagoons for the final disposal of sludge or primary sedimentation, secondary containment of pollutants such as hydrocarbons and others, etc.
